Crab Fest 2022

Our story is a tale of love at first sight, for Kim.

Andy and Kim met in 2022 at Crab Fest, an annual event hosted by their mutual friend, Sean, in Rock Creek Park. Kim thought she knew everyone on the guest list until a long-haired, mustachioed man came walking into the pavilion and looked her way. She was smitten.

She struck up conversation by noting they brought the same beer and told Andy it was her favorite (Author's Note: Kim had never had that beer before and only brought them because Sean left them in her fridge at a party). They found more common ground over their love of social sports and biking (these were true), eventually becoming Kan Jam partners later that day and winning!

Kim and Andy shared IG handles and parted ways, but Kim knew she had to see him again. The next day, she messaged him asking to go on a bike ride later that week. He agreed! Kim played hooky from her part-time job as an umpire and they went back into Rock Creek Park for a joy ride through the woods.

Andy and Kim dated casually over two months until Andy decided they were better off friends (rude!). And friends they became! This new dynamic allowed them to enjoy each other's company and get to know one another without the burden of romance, setting a strong foundation for a future they did not yet know awaited them.

After 6 months of friendship, the signs of pending romance were hard to ignore. One March afternoon after a softball tournament, Kim shared that her feelings for Andy never really went away. To Kim's delight, Andy admitted that the same was true for him, but that he needed some time to think. Kim said there was no rush.

One night about a week later, Kim was in Andy's neighborhood and decided to stop by. Instead of texting, calling, or buzzing at the front door, she threw rocks at his window until he looked outside. Andy nearly leapt out of his skin when he saw her beaming up at him from the garden.

He let her in, told her he'd thought about things long enough, and said to Kim, "Let's do it."

The rest is history.
